Despite some very cool cover art that almost gives the impression that A Lesson In the Abuse of Information Technology is either some rad new prog-rock release or a new avant-metal hybrid, what you get instead on this latest from The Menzingers is standard modern punk-pop. Long on buzz-saw hard rock and metal guitars, slick punk vocals that wouldn't sound out of place on any Green Day or vintage Sex Pistols or The Clash albums, and enough catchy melodies to snare in plenty of young fans who crave this sort of thing. There are some nifty, metallic guitar riffs on tunes like "Keychain" and "Victory Gin", but don't expect to be blown away by anything groundbreaking here. What The Menzingers do, they do well, however, if your tastes run to the more adventurous side of things, or should you have a warm spot for headbanging, this one most certainly won't be for you.
