Rhino has put together a pretty snazzy compilation here from Ratt, one of the leaders of the 80's LA hair metal scene. Listening to this 20 song set is like taking a guilty pleasure trip back in time, when loud guitars, big hair, catchy hooks, and scantily clad babes were all the rage. Culling songs from all seven of the group's albums, you get a pretty good cross section of material that does justice to the career of this band. Popular tunes like "Back For More", "You're In Love", "Round and Round", "Lay It Down", and "Way Cool Jr." (remember all those cheesey but fun videos?) are all here, along with some of the equally great but lesser known album tracks like "Dangerous But Worth the Risk", "Body Talk", "Lack of Communication", "Wanted Man", "Slip of the Lip", and the sleazy "Shame, Shame, Shame". Singer Stephen Pearcy never had metal's best voice, but he sure did sound original, and guitarist Warren DiMartini still is considered one of the best players to come out of the 80's glam metal scene. The booklet that comes with this release is pretty well stocked with commentary from the band regarding each track, and there's a nice essay from Steffan Chirazi that dives into the history of the band. So, if you've every played air guitar to "Round and Round" back in 1984 (come on guys, we know you did), and spent the last 20 years wondering what was so cool about Ratt in the first place, pick up a copy of Tell The World and relive the hysteria all over again. Looking back, the music was nothing to be taken too seriously, but good fun nontheless.
