Lovers of old-school thrash will certainly get a kick out of Spiritual Warfare, the latest from Bewitched, and first for Regain Records. Harkening back to sounds of classic Venom, Celtic Frost, and Motorhead, but throwing in plenty of modern black and death metal musical passages, these guys have put together ten solid, thrashy songs here sure to please most extreme metal heads. The Swedish band hit you with plenty of speedy rippers, like "Black Burning Hatred", "My Skin Loves the Steel", and "Fucked By Fire", but there are also tunes that show the restraint of the band and their ability to incorporate death and doom metal into their trash attack, like "Glorious Are The Ways Of Death", "Gracefallen", "This is Goodbye", and the ominous title track. You don't get anything overly original, and most of the album is played with a certain sense of charming simplicity, but if you like raging thrash/black/death/doom, with solid guitar and drum work, and vocals that sound like a combination of Chronos, Lemmy, and Tom G. Warrior, then check out Spiritual Warfare and indulge in a little 80's styled extreme metal.
