Ignitor are a US band that takes their influence from classic early 80's metal-that's right, bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Warlock, Manowar, Cirith Ungol, and even a little Tygers of Pan Tang.Newly signed to Cruz del Sur Music, the band features vocalist Erika Swinnich (ex-Autumn Tears) at the helm, and her powerful vocals recall vintage Doro, full of passion and fire, and also guitarist Stuart Laurence, formely of thrash band Agony Column. Once you get past the fantastic cover art by Joe Petagno, the music is crankin', no holds barred, no nonsense classic power metal, which should bring many a metal fan back to the glorious early 80's. Songs like "Broken Glass", "March to the Guillotine", and the prog-metal-ish "Castle in the Clouds" all bristle with power and muscle, fueled by lean 'n' mean guitar riffs, smoking leads, bombastic drums, and Erika's dramatic vocals. If the song titles sound epic, the arrangements follow a similar pattern, with guitars, bass, and drums galloping along at a steady pace, with "God of Vengeance" and the title track perfect examples of the grand majesty this band has conjured up here. Sure, it's not the most original stuff you'll ever hear, but Ignitor play with such fire and conviction that they are hard to ignore. If you love classic sounding metal, give Road of Bones a try.
