Italian label Frontiers deserves credit for moving well beyond its melodic rock and AOR roots by releasing a variety of metal albums. In Every Frozen Tear is a perfect example. The debut CD from the band formerly known as Demonslave and Atlantica (featuring past and present members of Spearfish and Platitude) melds progressive metal, hard rock and AOR attitudes into a sound that's fair to compare with Evergrey, Enchant, Stride and even Journey. Just don't expect this material to be quite as hooky.
In Every Frozen Tear certainly doesn't sound like the debut release from a band featuring at least two members barely out of their teens, and songs like "Hollow Ground," "Reflections," "Faded Memory," "Prayer for the Dying" and "Sorrows" reveal plenty of potential. Vocalist Zoran Djorem sings with just enough grit to give the songs extra bite and push them more to the metal end of the Frontiers spectrum, while plentiful keyboards provide a softer touch often missing in dark melodic metal. An enjoyable but less-than-challenging listen, In Every Frozen Tear sheds light on a new band worth keeping at least one ear on…
