If you're looking for a change of pace this Christmas, the effective, offbeat arrangements of jazz guitarist Peter White and his Peter White Christmas is just what Santa ordered. Adding a distinctive slant to such favs as "The Little Drummer Boy," "The Christmas Song," "Silent Night" and the usual suspects, also in the stocking are a couple of cool originals. The steamy, "I Can't Wait For Christmas," (featuring the sultry vocals of reed player/writer/singer Mindi Abair) and the smoky club fare of "Jingle Jangle Blues" by trumpeter/writer Rick Braun round out this extraordinarily recorded record, which is even a good listen, I'd imagine, in April.
