Dubbed as the "next big thing" in Metal, Lion Music has released the debut CD by Vendetta featuring guitarist, Edward Box. Vendetta's Tyranny Of Minority is a 12 track disc that will probably find a fan in those who are into bands like Primal Fear, Dokken and Edguy. Box wrote, produced, sang and played guitar on this record so his hands are all over the place.
In the UK, Edward Box is known as an instrumental artist and this is his first CD with this band and his take on traditional European Metal. As the main man in Vendetta, this is obviously his vehicle to let his guitar playing shine and he does at every chance possible. Both tasty and ripping, Box does his best impressions of George Lynch, EVH and Michael Schenker all over Tyranny of Minority. Nice bluesy phrasing with neo-classical flash. Nothing really new here, but he is a talented player even if not original.
Vendetta reminds me of '80's Euro Metal and that is both cool and predictable. From Kingdom Come fluff to Scorpions type riffing, you get both on Tyranny of Minority. Songs like "I Executioner" and "Plastic God" are two highlights of Box's guitar riffing prowess. As with most things, the highlights also come with some low points and those are in the form of Mr. Box's vocals. I doubt Edward Box considers himself a vocalist, and for good reason. They are both weak and frail and without conviction on most songs. Very close to the style of Lenny Wolf of the aforementioned Kingdom Come and Hamie of little known '80's outfit Heavy Pettin'. A higher resister type of vocals for sure. But Box's guitar chops are what make this record worth checking out. With 2 previous solo records to his credit, he has tried to not disappoint fans of those shredder releases.
Even though much hyped as a new classic traditional Metal record that is to take a place next to your Number of the Beast or Mob Rules, Vendetta's Tyranny of Minority doesn't hit the mark. Some of the material is quite good and others are album fillers that could have easily been left off this CD. Tyranny of Minority is an average, at best, stab at classic Euro Metal that never really hits the ground running, but Edward Box does shine on guitar all over the record.
