Raw, passionate and sexy as all get-out, singer/guitarist Queen V lets it all hang out on Death or Glory — an album of bombastic, robust rock featuring guitar solos from Vernon Reid and Tom Morello and guest vocals by Lemmy. A chick who reportedly learned to read using the lyrics to Queen's "We Will Rock You," Queen V stands as the antithesis of operatic female vocalists like Simone Simons and Tarja Turunen, instead falling somewhere between Evanescence's Amy Lee, Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia and Pat Benatar. Morello (Rage Against the Machine) injects "My Machine," an unrelenting and swaggering blues rocker about a woman's sexual prowess, with squeal and crunch, Reid (Living Colour) contributes to the slow-burn "One & Only," and Lemmy makes "Wasted" his own with a barbed-wire performance. Meanwhile, Queen V reveals her more vulnerable side and a sexy-tough edge on the dark ballads "Cry For A Minute" and "One More Time."
Guitar heroes. A metal icon. Pure rock 'n' roll. Why haven't we heard of Queen V before now?
