Black Cobra: Feather and Stone

If you didn't think world annihilation, via massive doses of pure, primal, concrete sludge was on Black Cobra's agenda when the band was formed in Los Angeles back in 2001 by sole members Jason Landrian (guitar, vocals) and Rafael Martinez (drums), then you obviously weren't paying attention. Fast forward six years, and with one EP and one full length release in the can, along comes their latest offering Feather and Stone to seal the deal proper. With enough bottom end to seriously rattle the inside of your cranium for days, Landrian and Martinez slice and dice their way through eight songs in just under thirty minutes with a ferocious sense of urgency. Oh sure they considered your feelings long enough to offer you a bit of a brief respite from their heavy handed doom assault by including a short, moody instrumental entitled "Thanos" but that's just to ensure that you pace yourself for the 2nd half of this beast. As soon as "Thanos" is fades out, the next track "Red Tide" threatens to tear you a new one as it begins with a barrage of guitar and some absolutely frenetic drum work, along with Landrian's angst-ridden screams. When it's all over, there's only one thing left to do and that's hit repeat on your CD player and play this stoned out opus one more time. Feather and Stone is about as good as it gets in the doom/ sludge genre so get on board now or get run over.
