This impressive slab of apocalyptic melodic metal comes courtesy of some unheralded players who have nevertheless written powerful and dramatic tunes for the likes of Dionysus, Primal Fear and Ride the Sky. Indeed, the Swedish/Norwegian hybrid Saint Deamon makes dramatic and cinematic music in the vein of Edguy and Stratovarius. With a gutsy vocalist who once replaced Jorn Lande in TNT guitarist Ronnie Le Tekro's Wild Willy's Gang, the rhythm section from Dionysus and a producer known for his work with Symphony X and Opeth, Saint Deamon populates its lyrically historical landscapes with sophisticated headbanging aggression.
From the scorching "My Judas" and "No Man's Land" to the epic "Black Symphony" and "Run For Your Life" to power ballads like "My Heart" and "My Sorrow," In Shadows Lost From the Brave heralds the arrival of a band that possesses more diversity and range then many of its brethren. Sure, Saint Deamon settles for status quo on the galloping, generic title track, the Hammerfall wannabe "Ride Forever" and "The Burden," a Painkiller-like ear burner. But for the most part, this is a stunning debut that proves Italy's Frontiers Records still has a knack for unleashing metal bands with plenty of potential.
