With the Murderdolls on hiatus, lead singer Wednesday 13 would release a solo album and his first would be Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying And The Dead. Fans of the ghoulish Horror Punker who picked this one up would find a ghastly and grim cornucopia of fiendish goodies just waiting to be tasted and the end result was something that took its queue from those late night Chiller Theater films. If you don't know much about the singer, well he is very easily described as somewhat akin to Marilyn Manson (only not as intensely scary), Alice Cooper, and KISS with a little bit of Twisted Sister thrown in for good measure. The music is raucous and thumping and its lyrical content rather witty. He proves this right off the bat with the song "I Walked With A Zombie" as he sings "beauties on duty in this horror movie, make me spill my guts with just one touch". There is a great video for this song that blends footage of the band in with the Horror classic "Night Of The Living Dead". "Bad Things" is an anthem for those who simply want bad things to happen to other people while "I Want You Dead" is rather self explanatory don't you think. "Bad Things" has a video as well but that's primarily live footage. After one spin of the CD I felt that I had enough ammunition against anything that was going bump in the night outside of my door. I enjoyed "The Ghost Of Vincent Price" as Wednesday lamented the late great Horror legend and also thought that "Look What The Bats Dragged In" was an amusing play on words. "Elect Death For President" and "Rot For Me" showcase the singers passion for the macabre but through it all there is a very tongue in cheek treatment to otherwise morbid premises. The title track is a slow and ominously atmospheric number that I felt would have been a perfect closer for the CD but instead we find it smack in the middle. Wednesday handled vocals and guitar on the album and was joined by Kid Kid (bass), Pig (guitar) and Ghastly (drums) as the other members of the band. They include lyrics and some photos in the booklet and all in all this was a fun romp around the cemetery grounds in the middle of the night. This is definitely a release for the fans of Horror Punk like The Misfits and Murderdolls but be warned that it should be listened to with the lights on as opposed to off. You might need a stake, silver bullets and perhaps some holy water should you choose to do otherwise. Don't say I didn't warn you.
