The Playing Favorites: I Remember When I was Pretty
The Playing Favorites are a sort of power pop all star group out of Santa Barbara CA. comprising five musicians from bands as Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut, Penfifteen Club, Sugarcult and Popsicko. All the musicians have played together in some form or another in the above mentioned outfits, but the idea to turn The Playing Favorites into a reality really came out of Joey Cape (guitar, vocals, keys) and Luke Tierney's (guitars, vocals, keys) desire to start a side project with friends, simple as that. The result of this collaboration with fellow musicians, Tim Cullen (guitars, vocals), Mark Desantis (bass, vocals) and drummer Mick Flowers, entitled I Remember When I Was Pretty was tracked in only five days. The fourteen songs are diverse, tightly executed and for the most part guitar driven anthems replete with stacked vocal harmonies galore. Nothing sounds forced here, just five talented songwriter / musicians coming together to make music the old fashioned way, with honesty and nary an ounce of contrived or manufactured BS.
