Seduction is the debut instrumental solo album from Zero Hour guitarist Jasun Tipton. Released back in 2005, Seduction shows the talents of a master player just as his main band was starting to really get noticed as the progressive metal force they are. Don't expect Zero Hour type of material here however, as Seduction is more targeted at jazz-heads than anything else. Also featuring Jasun's twin brother Troy on bass, drummers Sean Flanegan (Enchant) & John Perrine (Dali's Dilemma), and guitarist Scott McGill (who duels with Tipton on the scorching "Question & Answer II"), the CD was produced by Dino Alden, who has worked with Zero Hour their entire career. Tunes like "Tears From the Moon" and the title track see the guitarist go off into jazzy territory, featuring some silken electric melodies and lush acoustic guitar tapestries, and it's not until "Question & Answer" (Jasun's tribute to guitar legend Jason Becker) that he rips into some blazing sweep picking and jaw dropping arpeggios, showing that he can shred with the best of them. Fans of Al DiMeola's acoustic work will love the Latin flamenco flavor of "A Rise of Tension", while "Christina" is just a wonderful soft ballad, with Jasun's tasty acoustic guitar melodies and Troy's slippery fretless bass lines conjuring up images of Larry Coryell and Jaco Pastorius. "Falling From the Sky" is a nice mix of jazz-fusion and rock, with Jasun's searing electric lines and melodic piano leading the charge, and "Ya La Blu Tibia" is another alluring acoustic miasma of intoxicating sounds with both Tiptun brothers playing off each other quite nicely. As mentioned above, for all-out shred, check out the final track "Question & Answer II" to hear Tipun and Scott McGill trade off some searing lines on what is otherwise a calming prog-fusion number.
Bottom line is, Seduction is a hell of a quality listen. Don't expect the thunderous assault of Zero Hour, but instead you get hear what other tricks Jasun Tipton has up his sleeve. Modern jazz guitar fans especially should seek this out if you haven't already.
