We know that this album was re-recorded live in its entirety at a bar and grill in Troy, Mich., earlier this year. But since we've yet to hear how that came out, it's worth revisiting Tin Scribble's 2005 debut, Children of Saturn, an odd record with Rush, King Crimson and Van der Graaf Generator tendencies. The band's lineage includes two members of the defunct late-Nineties art-rock troupe House of Usher — vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Michael Moore (no, not that Michael Moore, who is also from Michigan) and bassist Mark Jardine.
Whether setting sound bites of President George W. Bush to disturbing rhythmic sequences or blasting through catchy songs with echoes of the Eighties' British New Wave, Tin Scribble makes intriguing, eclectic prog that's both politically and socially relevant. Instrumentation veers toward the exotic with the Celtic harp and Arabic percussion, while the simple yet creepy cover art serves as a visual for the heady material inside.
