Dubbing their sound as "world music from another world," veteran string players Novi Novog on viola and Larry Tuttle on Chapman Stick make light-hearted fusion on Songs from the Home Planet — a fun collection of eclectic originals and covers. Whether re-imagining the Beatles' classic "Lady Madonna" and Hidachi Nakamura's peppy jazz number "Sukiyaki," or performing their own wistful "Goodbye Goodluck" and the orchestral "Pepe the Circus Dog," this duo keep things interesting. After awhile, though, the limited instrumentation prevents the music from going in dramatic directions.
Worth noting here is that Novi recorded the famous solos on the Doobie Brothers' "Black Water" and Prince's "Raspberry Beret," while Tuttle used to be in the power-pop/prog-rock band Russia (later called Force 10).
