This little EP from 2000 by Swedish black metal merchants Marduk, now receiving the reissue/remaster treatment from Regain Records (who are really doing justice to the Marduk, Gorgoroth, and Dark Funeral catalogs), is a quick little 17-minute appetizer that features two songs later appearing on the album La Grande Danse Macabre, plus a cover of the Celtic Frost classic "Into the Crypt of Rays". The line-up here in 2000 was Morgan on guitars, B. War on bass, Legion on vocals, and drummer Fredrik Andersson, which many consider to be the classic Marduk roster. While "Obedience" and "Funeral Bitch" are typical Marduk black metal rippers, featuring plenty of manic blast beats, razor sharp guitars, and Legion's venemous vocals, it's neat to hear the band tackle normal rock material on "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones, and some punk with "Earth AD" by the Misfits. These two tracks are extras that Regain has thrown into this EP, and with the great Celtic Frost cover, makes this a fun listen that all Marduk fans will want to have in their CD collections.
