The Limit doesn't reinvent anything on Reinventing the Sun. Instead, this Connecticut band resurrects the craft of writing good ol' melodic hard rock songs (but, I must add, relies on extremely unimaginative packaging).
There's something vaguely familiar about every single track on The Limit's second CD, mastered by Ty Tabor of King's X fame. With a voice that sounds a lot like Tyketto's Danny Vaughn, Mark Daniel sings with the pure emotion of vocalists from days gone by. The best tracks here reflect that genuineness and include the rousing opener "House of Sand," the slow-building rocker "A Little Like Dying," and "The Things You Want" and "Save Yourself" — the album's heaviest two cuts. "Time Can't Keep Me," an acoustic ballad, even could have been a hit for Tyketto in, say, 1991.
If you long for an era when bands released essentially filler-free albums loaded with tried-and-true tunes that you'd catch yourself humming two days later, The Limit can take you there.
