The Secret: Disintoxication

Holing yourself up in a recording studio a mere four hours from the Artic Circle, talking about exorcisms, and smoking pot while watching David Lynch's Inland Empire is bound to produce interesting results musically. Such was the modus operandi behind the second full length release Disintoxication from the Italian metal / hardcore outfit known as The Secret. While it's not immediately clear as to just how these various influences might have directly cajoled their way into the bands music, one thing that is immediately evident after listening to this disc, is that Disintoxication is replete with a full on aggression that's hard to ignore.

Although with a running time of just over thirty minutes, these four hungry musicians aren't out to waste one second of your time, storming out of the gate like a ravenous pit bull. Guitarist Michael Bertoldini fires off one massive, bludgeoning discordant riff after another while vocalist Marco Coslovich's razor sharp screams are delivered with an unbridled amount of intensity on tracks like the scorching "Inferno", "Death To Pigs" and "Kill The Dead". If there is one drawback on Disintoxication it would have to be the fact that the majority of the songs don't deviate a whole hell of a lot, so if you're looking for more in the way of variety, then you won't find it here. This isn't really a major issue though, because what The Secret do, they do very well, and that is constantly pummel the listener into submission with their marvelously crafted displays of ultra violence. That alone is enough to make Disintoxication a worthwhile purchase.
