The merchants of doom, Candlemass, are back, captured in all their glory with this brand new 2CD set from 2002's tour. Featuring the quinntessential line-up of Messiah Marcolin on vocals, Leif Edling on bass, Mats Bjorkman on rhythm guitar, Lars Johansson on lead guitar, and Jan Lindh on drums, Candlemass are and have been modern days' best answer to early 70's Black Sabbath. This live set includes scorching renditions of many of their classic tunes, all played in front of a rabid audience in Stockholm, Sweden.
All the signature songs are here-"The Well of Souls", "Mirror Mirror", "At the Gallows End", "Dark are the Veils of Death", "Ancient Dream", as well as countless other doom gems. Guitarists Johansson and Bjorkman create a huge and heavy wall of sound with constant moody riffs and dirges, while the awesome presence of Messiah wails the haunting vocal passages much like he did 10-15 years ago.
I don't think there is any need for me to pontificate here. If you are a past fan-get this. If you have never experienced Candlemass, and you love huge doomy riffs like vintage Black Sabbath, then this is for you. Hopefully, these guys are back to stay!
