The trio from Poland named Grimlord try real hard on their new release Blood Runneth Over to capture some of the classic mid-80's metal sounds of bands like Cirith Ungol, Fates Warning, Omen,Agent Steel, and Savatage. Musically at times they do a decent job, with tight rhythms and some crunchy, often times intricate guitar work, which helps tunes like "Beast We are Keeping Under Cover" and "X" hold the interest of the listener. However, the production values of Blood Runneth Over leave a lot to be desired, and the lead vocals of guitarist Barth La Picard are very weak, his heavily accented English quite annoying and to put it bluntly, oten times takes the focus away from the solid musicianship, and not in a good way. There are moments when his vocals are almost unbearable, and his style really does not fit theses songs one bit. That being said, these three obviously have some talent, and are able to hone in on a sound that recalls some of metal's glory days, but first they need to find a decent producer as well as a dedicated lead singer. Then maybe things might start to take shape.
