Even though it runs only 37 minutes, Judge Jackson's self-titled fourth album plays more like two EPs — one rootsy and the other rowdy. Of the 10 songs here, about half of them are acoustic Southern rockers — twang with an edge, if you will. The rest rock harder and heavier, with gruff shouting that replaces softer harmonies. This is an unexpected twist coming from a band that packages its latest CD to look like a weathered playbill from some dusty saloon. But the combination of rawk and roll gives Judge Jackson crossover appeal, and the band's music can be heard on the Speed Channel, Fox Sports Network and the sitcom My Name Is Earl.
