The intense live experience that is Black Label Society is captured here on this beer soaked 2 CD package. Disc one contains thirteen songs from the bands most recent tour, and the band is as heavy and raw as one can possibly imagine. Disc two is a complete contrast, featuring five more acoustic based songs, including stirring renditions of Black Sabbath's "Snow Blind" and the Neil Young classic "Heart of Gold."
Many of the bands more raucous selections are included on the live set, such as "Phoney Smiles and Fake Hellos" and "Superterrorizer." Zakk's signature screaming solos and ultra-heavy riffs are featured throughout, and the man proves that he is one of the better players around. Noteworthy also is the solo spot titled "A.N.D.R.O.T.A.Z.", which is basically an excuse for the guitarist to demonstrate his awesome technique and throw in some complex riffage. The band even tosses in a monstrous version of the Ozzy classic "No More Tears" complete with Zakk's trademark gravely vocals.
As far as live metal albums go, this one is a good one. However, at times Zakk's vocals are quite rough, and his frequent use of four letter expletives may turn some listeners off. Aside from those minor points, this is a keeper from an important guitarist in todays metal scene, and an all around brutally drunken good time.
