Seattle, WA duo (YES, I said duo) Mico de Noche, make the most out of two guys, more than a lot of 4 piece bands ever do. With a little help from some musician friends, this 7 track CD, Cherries is a sort of throw back to the late '80's-early '90's, dare I say, Sub Pop era. Very Melvins-ish, with bombastic playing throughout with a dirty Stoner Rock feel. Think Clutch meets Mastodon who hangs out with Kyuss and you get the picture. Thick, pounding and pulsating, while all the while just flat out jamming. Very "hit record and go!!"
Mico de Noche are made up of guitarist/vocalist, Mike Crum and drummer/vocalist, Donovan Stewart and the question is, "how do two guys make so much god damn noise?!!" Now to be honest these guys have enlisted nine other musicians to round out the making of this CD, but who cares! This is a trip of a CD that was obviously a blast to record. You can almost smell the weed wafting from the speakers! Check out CD opener, the straight ahead smoker "Dirty Unicorn" or "Le Strut" for a cool, almost Corrosion Of Conformity, heaviness. Mico de Noche will grab you by the throat and demand that you listen!
Pick anyone of the 7 songs on Cherries- it doesn't really matter which because the stoner vibe is present on all of them, which means you get exactly what you're looking for if you this is your cup of tea. Guitars riffing all over the place and spastic, while still rhythmic drum bashing, this isn't for the meek. With repetitive chunky riffs that beat you into submission and a good and thick production on top of everything else, this stuff should be called "Sludge Metal".
If you dig your Metal/Hard Rock with that Stoner edge, then do yourself a favor and pick up Cherries, you'll love it!
