Lechery is a new Swedish metal band featuring ex Arch Enemy member Martin Bengtsson on vocals and guitar. But don't expect another Arch Enemy, Violator is quite different, containing mostly mid- paced classic heavy metal with not a hint of death metal vocals to be found anywhere on their debut.
My picks here are "I Am The One", with its catchy chorus, "Your Fate", which has a very cool riff, "Cynical", a song that features some impressive guitar playing, and "Attraction" which is more of a groover, all of these impressed me the most. I just found that besides for these tunes, the remainder of Violator failed to draw me in as much, the tracks are solid but I wasn't totally hooked. Maybe some more variety wouldn't hurt or adding in some more uptempo songs as there is very little speed to be found here to break things up. The production is fine and the music is well played with the guitar being the standout on here, the vocals are ok with not much variation.
Lechery's Violtar is neither groundbreaking or album of the year material but it's a solid debut. The better tracks on here show they have potential to follow this up with a stronger release, and it will be interesting to hear what they do. If you like more straighforward mid -paced metal you may want to give it a try.
