Although billed as an EP, A Single Drop of Blood boasts a running time of 41 minutes and is essentially two EPs in one. The first five songs are new tracks from the Boston-based metallic electronic duo (including video-game faves "Collide" and "Blood Doll"), while the last six tracks are an "experiment" — according to members Keith Smith and Adam von Buhler. They asked friends to record "tripped-out" remixes of older cuts and take them "somewhere Adam and I would not," Smith writes in the liner notes.
The new material sounds like a friendlier Rob Zombie ("Graveyard Stickshift") and any number of interchangeable testosterone-heavy commercial-rock bands ("Blood Doll," the title track) — which may explain Anarchy Club's presence on both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games. Recorded in von Buhler's living room, these songs sound great, with soaring sonics for which many indie artists would stab their mother and sell her soul. But after you've heard them once or twice, you've heard them a thousand times. The new industrial-tinged mixes are more suited to dance clubs and hold limited appeal, especially for listeners not familiar with the originals. But at least you can hear Anarchy Club's Dr. Dre influence on "Enemy Ace (Anarkey Lime Pie Mix)."
