Merlinmoon: Stoned By Dreams

Merlinmoon is the solo project of Alex Deep. The music on this CD is mainly mellow and in a slower tempo. The songs have a full sound with the use of acoustic and electric guitar, piano and different keyboards, drums and bass. The vocals are the centerpiece of the songs, and they are presented in a clear mid range tone. Some of the songs have a little bit of ELO flavor with strings added to fill out the sound. Listening to the CD for the third time it seems to me that only two different tempos are used for all the songs and there is not enough variation to keep someone interested.

The music on Stoned By Dreams is mostly pop and may appeal to fans of bands like Coldplay. The music does sound good, but lacks the variation that most prog fans enjoy. If this was a pop rock site this CD may get a higher rating, but overall this was a difficult release to review because it is a style of music that doesn't really fit in with our prog and metal genres and none of the songs jump out at the listener.

My Score:

I dont agree with the review because when you listen to a record like dark side of the moon it has still less variations and that record rules the prog rock genre, i believe that for being a first record Merlinmoon did great and lets see what the second album looks like. The more you listen to it the more you get to enjoy it and when they hit song 10 and deliver a 19 minute piece thats brave. I just read that last week they opened for Dava Navarro, lets see what comes next.
