Hatchet: Awaiting Evil

When I first saw the cover artwork and band name Hatchet I was expecting to hear another death metal band. Not in this case, Hatchet play pure 80's styled thrash metal. The likes of Testament, Annihilator and Anthrax were always in my player back then so you could say I am partial to this style of metal. Many of the 80s thrashers moved on and evolved their sound over the years, some better than others, leaving fans divided on which era is their best. So I suppose then in a way Hatchet are giving fans that prefer the earlier sound of these bands another option and not a bad one at all.

Hatchet's debut release Awaiting Evil has plenty for the moshing thrash fan. Commencing with yet another short instrumental, " Darkening Skies", which seems to be the standard starter in a lot of metal CD's these days, the first of eight guitar driven thrashers kicks proceedings off. Awaiting Evil is your standard formula thrash so don't expect a musical evolution just well played speed metal like it used to be, even the production reminds me of the 80s. So if you have been craving some good thrash check out Hatchet.
