Raw Norwegian black metal that makes much of what came out of the fair Scandinavian country during the early '90s sound like soothing crooner music a la Bing
Crosby and Frank Sinatra. 1349's music is as
uncompromising and sinister as any in the metal
underground. While some might argue that "Manifest"
and "I Breathe Spears" are little more than exercises
in pushing the boundaries between organized noise and
music, those tracks, as well as "Pitch Black," "Evil
Oath" and others, prove rewarding for the patient
listener seeking out new forms of expression within
the genre. It might be cliche to say this but 1349 are
not for the faint of heart or weak of ear.
Now that Emperor's gone look for this bunch (and Old
Man's Child) to take up the cause of creating
groundbreaking black metal.
