Shai Hulud's third release is Misanthropy Pure, their first in five years due to other projects and lineup changes. Shai Hulud started out back in 1995 and are one of the innovators of what's known as metalcore. Shai Hulud has inspired many bands and they also have a wide range of influences from such metal legends as Testament to hardcore punk band Dead Kennedy's. Musically Shai Hulud is a concoction of punk, metal, hardcore and thrash so it's quite a frantic combination.
Misanthropy Pure is one very intense, angry and heavy rocker from the start with "Venomspreader" through to closer "Cold Lord Quietus". There are some very good performances on here by all members. The vocal aggression has a dual effect though, not only does it fit the music and give it a hard edge, it does become a bit repetitive and more variation wouldn't have hurt. Shai Hulud fans or anyone whom likes this style of music will enjoy Misanthropy Pure.
