Full of raw grit, raunch and melody, Toronto's Sin Dealer is a throwback to the days of carefree blue-collar, blues-tinged metal. Think AC/DC and Motorhead, with chunks of Alice in Chains and KISS chopped in for extra zest. Obviously, there's nothing remotely groundbreaking about this collective, which features members of such defunct groups as Sea of Green and Sons of Otis, but that actually makes Sin Dealer sound more refreshing on its second album, Dying to Live. Sure, it's sludgy stuff, and vocalist Eric Kuthe's voice sounds like this morning's Grape Nuts got stuck in his throat. But a band that chooses to cover AC/DC's "Walk All Over You" while still invoking Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash in its promo materials deserves at least 44 minutes and 32 seconds of your precious time.
