Montreal based Industrial Death Metal band, Synastry have released their
debut CD, Blind Eyes Bleed on Year Of The Sun Records. There are 13
tracks filled with heavy grooves and modern metal riffs, that may find a home
with hardcore fans of Fear Factory, Arch Enemy and Machine Head.
Formed in 2005, Synastry deliver their brand of classic death metal with an
industrial twist. The result is a Thrashy head-long experiment into the brutal
and somewhat futuristic. Musically tight and heavy with mean riffs, Synastry try
to head into a new direction for Metal. Vocally if you can imagine the cartoon
band from Metalocalypse, Dethklok, with their singer, Nathan Explosion's deathy
gargle, you are on the right path. Brutal and hard to understand, but that's
Death Metal, isn't it?! This four piece band is best described as Progressive
Death Metal and check out a song like "Betrayed By My Flesh" for a sample of
their progressive goodness.
With guest spots from Alissa White Gluz (The Agonist) and Johan Lilva
(original Arch Enemy singer), Synastry have a fairly solid debut for those on
the Death Metal tip. There is an obvious attempt to stray from the typical Metal
here and Synastry may be onto something, but it's not that far removed from
bands that were mentioned in this review for me to be THAT blown away. I wish
the vocals weren't so garbled, but that's Death Metal for ya.
