Alberto Rigoni is one of the more dynamic bass players, which he exhibits
throughout his solo debut Something Different. Alberto is also the bass
player with progressive band Twinspirits. The title Something Different
actually sums the album up pretty well, this is not an extension of his main
band even though there are some progressive elements present, from what I have
read the album gave Alberto the opportunity to express himself and branch out
with impressive displays of fusion/rock and funk. Yes his bass is the dominant
instrument as you would expect but the album wouldn't be complete without the
other instruments.
You wont find the level of extreme complexity as exhibited on say a Planet X
release, all the musicians present are capable performers and while there is
still a technical level present it's just not to the same degree. Then again
that isn't the aim here, the emphasis instead is on delivering the listener with
variety and catchiness in those tracks on offer, making this quite the
accessible release from Alberto, appealing to a wider audience.
Something Different combines tranquil/ambient instrumental moments
with others like the upbeat funky and very different, as you can judge from the
title "BASSsex" one of two tracks with vocals, the heavier "Roller Coaster"
being the other. Are you a fan of well played instrumental music with a slick
sound or maybe you are looking for 'something different' then give this a try.
