The state of Michigan has always been known for breeding music that has a certain shall we say… edge. From rock's earliest rebels, The MC5, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and Ted Nugent, it's long been suggested that someone, somewhere might be dosing the water out there. Not to mention that Detroit at one time had the dubious honor as being recognized as the murder capitol of the US. Ok so what does this have to do with the metallic, death / thrash assault of Michigan's Nocturnal Fear you might ask? Well slip a copy of their latest album Code Of Violence into your preferred medium and try to convince yourself that these guys haven't allowed the brutality of their surroundings to bleed it's way directly into this potent and lethal slab of punishing metal.
With the classic German sounds of Kreator and Sodom as reference points this trio consisting of Slave Hunter (guitars), Necromodeus (vocals, bass) and Aggressor (drums) could care less about gimmicks or current trends, instead focusing solely one thing and one thing only, and that is to repeatedly annihilate the listener at every given opportunity over the course of these ten, relentless anthems. Forget the ever changing tempos and / or unnecessary amounts of technical wankery, because Code Of Violence serves it up raw and with all the surgical precision of a swift lightening strike. If the skull shattering, in your face riffs of tracks like "Line Of Fire", "Flamethrower Holocaust", "Denim Demons", the title track and the appropriately titled "Skull Splitter" doesn't get your adrenaline pumping then nothing will. Quite simply Nocturnal Fear is the perfect example of how modern thrash metal is supposed to sound and on Code Of Violence they have you right where they want you, which is directly in their crosshairs.
