Hailing from Norway, Kampfar started back in 1994 and are one of the better Pagan Folklore Metal bands. Kampfar have delivered with Heimgang, an album combining many variations of tempo and catches with Dolk's dark vocals and the traditional influences you would expect.
After the well suited instrumental "Vantro" builds up to set the atmosphere for the coming tracks, "Inferno" speeds into gear. "Dodens Vee" sees one of the many times guitarist Thomas displays his influences and executes the catchy riffs required to hook listeners. Thomas is well supported by bass player Jon and drummer II13, who displays his natural feel for his instrument as he propels the songs forward, no machine like performance here. "Skogens Dyp" is one track that had me hooked , with a very catchy riff, is a fine example of Kampfar's ability to write songs that draw you in.
Pagan Folklore Metal may not be everyones cup of tea but bands like Kampfar really do it well, and this genre has a lot to offer those whom care to delve in. If you are a fan of the genre you will certainly be pleased with the time spent listening to Kampfar's Heimgang.
