The re-release of this 1989 album by Metal Mind Productions is one where you can get a taste of some of the very strange industrial sounds emanating from the country of France at the time. Treponem Pal, which is named after the syphilis bacteria, is a group that was a major part of the upsurge in this type of music. With a heavy beat provided by former Celtic Frost drummer Stephen Priestly, this album is a thunderous piece that maintains its intense rhythm and harsh presentation throughout. Musically this album is strong. Vocally and lyrically, it has some flaws.
Marco Neve, vocalist, has a growly voice that for the most part, suits this style of music. The difficulty is how his French accent seems to dominate. It might have been better to sing it in his native tongue. Along with that, the lyrics are very adolescent sounding and come out as a guy singing in broken English. Simply put, this would have been a dynamite instrumental work.
From what I have heard of their more recent works, the vocals seem to have been a spot that has been worked on with much better results. Sadly, they did not come soon enough to save this album.
