From The Inside: Visions
From The Inside is a project formed by former Tyketto member Danny Vaugn (vocals) who is joined by guitarist Jimi Bell (House of Lords), Peter Lobo (drums), Fabrizio Gossi (bass) and Eric Ragno (keyboards). Let me get this out of the way first: this is not progressive rock. In fact, this is far removed from anything progressive which is not necessarily a bad thing. After all, one cannot listen to overly complex music all the time, well, maybe one can, but that is beside the point. I sometimes like to lighten the load so to speak and I do not mean pop fluff, but something with a good melody and a Master's Degree is not required to understand it. That is what we have here, a pleasant slice of classic melodic rock. According to Danny Vaugn's website, the intent was to make an album heavily influenced by Journey and seeing how they had just finished a tour with the aforementioned band that is exactly what they did.
This is a well done record, with quality musicianship and passionate vocals delivered by Vaugn. Jimi Bell lays down some nice guitar leads, no long meandering solos here, just short and sweet and to the point. The songs are all mid-length in the 4 to 6 minute range so there is not much room for longer instrumental passages. For those of you who have to have an epic tune here or there this record is not for you. However, if you dig melodic rock, with the emphasis on melodic, and like rock music in the vein of Journey, you will appreciate this disc. If you are searching for something completely earth shattering you may be disappointed. After a few listens the songs sound pretty similar to one another so keep that in mind when making your buying decision. Maybe next time they will stretch their boundaries a little and not play it quite so safe. Having said that, what matters most for me is the quality of the music and From The Inside sets a fairly high standard in the melodic rock genre, and I can safely recommend this to fans of this style of music without hesitation. This one earns a solid three stars.

From The Inside: Visions Posted by Michael Popke, SoT Staff Writer on 2008-12-16 08:39:13 My Score:
Danny Vaughn, most famous as front man of the Eighties hard-rock band Tyketto, never really went away – although he's much more popular in Europe these days than he is in his American homeland. With an active solo career, an acoustic gig opening for Journey in the UK recently and even a Tyketto reunion, it's safe to say that the singer is trying to live by the lyrics of Tyketto's best-known song and stay "Forever Young."Now he's back with From the Inside, a studio project created in 2004 for Italy's Frontiers Records. The collective's second album, Visions, reveals a dozen slices of melodic-rock nirvana for fans who still listen to those old Tyketto records. (Hell, that includes me.) Vaughn's slightly dusty but still-potent voice rings out loud and clear above Eric Ragno's majestic keyboards and plenty of hearty power chords from House of Lords' Jimi Bell. Unfortunately, it appears as if Vaughn didn't write all of these songs, opting for input on a half-dozen tracks from guys who've penned tunes for Ted Poley, House of Lords and Khymera – all, by the way, artists on the Frontiers roster. That said, there are enough musical and lyrical references here to Vaughn's career-long body of work to make Visions play like his own project. It's not as powerful or diverse as his 2007 solo album, Traveller, but it doesn't need to be. Vaughn's a survivor, a refugee from a lost era that lives on in memories and music. And here, he rekindles nostalgia for both.
