The title might be Godfather but there are no gangster rappers on this one, just some good head banging metal. Elysium were founded in 1996, and Godfather was originally released in 2005 with Metal Mind Productions now serving up this reissue. This is my first experience of Elysium's music, and they play quite catchy, groovy death/thrash metal.
"Follow The Dead" starts slowly, the guitar cuts in to speed up proceedings before the remainder of the band takes off thrashing away as they go. "Snake Legion" has another thrashy start before going into a cool mid- paced heabanging groove that's repeated later, the tempo then changes again, in fact, this tracks feels like it's connected to a six speed shifting back and fourth as it goes. The rampant "Godfather blues" blasts off in fine moshing form. "Seven Deadly Strikes" has some great riffs to draw you in, and "Jane Doe" is another cool track, the guitar at one stage actually briefly reminded me of Dream Theater's "As I Am".
If you want some fun heavy thrash with dark vocals, Elysium are one band that has it on their album Godfather.
