Digging through all the music that I receive to review, is very much like treasure hunting. You can go for a long time without any kind of reward, but when you find that hidden gem, it is ah so sweet. Such is the case with the magnificent Delusional Reality by Mindwarp Chamber.
This is an album that will overwhelm you with its rich textured sound. Much of it is due to the magnificent work of keyboardist Ed Bethishou. His playing adds a dramatic flair to the music each and every time his fingers hits the keys. Even on very heavy metal songs like "Against The Wish" his underlying keyboard playing adds a whole new dimension to the music. Prepare to be immersed into one of the most vibrant pieces of music I have found recently as this album is a breathtaking example of musical genius.
Vocalist Scott Huffman is without doubt one of the best vocalist in the world of rock music. His deep, throaty delivery is as powerful as any singer I can think of. Maybe now he will get his due! This album highlights his sense of theatrics and with a majestic flair; he gives you a performance that leaves you spellbound.
With only 8 songs and over an hour of music, this album does not lack songs of the epic status! Each song is an opus in its own right. From the moment that Bethishou's keyboards take you into the fantasy world of "When The Snow Devil Sleeps" it becomes clear that you are in for a symphonic metal treat like no other! There are seven other stops along the way on the Mindwarp express and each one will grab you with its magnificence. It is impossible to pick out a favorite since all are so good. But if pressed, there is something about the song "Thought Saboteur" that has had me singing the irresistible chorus much to my wife's dismay!
The band has a great metal linage. Singer Scott Huffman has been the frontman for both the groups Syris and Twelfth Gate. Bassist Brent Sullivan has played with Slauter Xstroyes, Winter Kill and Squadron. Keyboardist Ed Bethishou was taken from the David Shankel Group. Drummer Paul KillKenny use to sit behind Neil Morris. With guitarist Jerry Buzcko to fill out the band on this disc, Mindwarp Chamber is a group that has taken from their past yet molded into something new and unique that is one of the finest albums I have listened to this year. The only question you should have is whether to order 2 discs just to make sure you have a backup!! This is one of the very few 5 star albums that I have come across.
