Bible Of The Devil: Freedom Metal

The Chicago based Bible Of The Devil is a 4 piece metal outfit that play a stripped down brand of rock and roll. Very basic in their approach, they try to overpower you with as much volume and crunching guitar as humanly possible. Sometimes it works to perfection in the very Thin Lizzy sounding "Ol' Girl". Mark Hoffman's vocals are very good for this type of song. He could very easily fill in for Mr. Lynott. The only problem is when he tries to stretch beyond his limitations and his voice becomes very thin.

There is some real headbanging material on this disc and the band is at their best when they are going at full speed. Songs like "Hijack The Night" and "Night Oath" showcase some terrific guitar work and a headbangeritis is a definite possibility.

When they try to go mellow with the Southern tinged "Heat Feeler" it really doesn't work very well at all. This song sticks out like a sore thumb. They crank it up and add some very dynamite guitar in the later part of the song; but it's too late to help it.

If you want an album to fuel an alcohol filled night of debauchery, this one will fit the bill. When you sober up though, you might find yourself looking for something with a bit more meat to it.
