Obituary: Left to Die

To celebrate the recent US tour as well as their successful Xecutioner's Return CD from 2007, Florida's legendary death metal outfit Obituary give something back to the fans in the form of this 4-song EP Left to Die. If you are a fan of the band, you'll want to add this to your collection, not only do you get two new tunes in the form of the chugging title track and the deliciously old school "Forces Realign", but a newly recorded version of their classic cut "Slowly We Rot", as well as their cover of the Celtic Frost staple "Dethroned Emperor". If you've been following the Obituary camp the last two years, you've no doubt been thrilled at the injection of fresh attitude that guitarist Ralph Santolla has brought to the fold since joining the band. His blistering, technical yet melodic guitar solos have really helped Obituary up their game so to speak, and his blazing technique is in full swing here, leads-a-flying on the raging "Forces Realign", and he blends in just fine on the newly recorded "Slowly We Rot", a classic example of old school Florida death metal. Lead singer John Tardy has one of the most recognizable voices in all of extreme metal, and he's in fine form here, his earthy, Southern grunts sounding right at home on Celtic Frost's classic "Dethroned Emperor". Add in a CD-Rom video for "Evil Ways" and you have a fun little EP from Obituary that will certainly help hold the faithful over till their next full length studio offering.

My Score:

Initial pressings of this are without the cd rom and a confused track order. Love the quality control. Throw in some cheap packaging and you have a real deal.
