I reviewed Alberto Rigoni's Something Different recently, which I thought was a fitting title to describe the album. Well, this CD could have been called "Something Different to the Max and Then Some", as it's not your ordinary release at all. Italian band Prophexy's Alconauta CD is a various mixture of progressive metal/rock, the results of which are also quite a mixture of music to say the least, ranging from lighter odd time jazz/rock moments through to heavier times with double kick drumming.
Alconauta's lyrics are in Italian, so if you don't speak the language this CD may not be of appeal. Prophexy use many different sound effects and instruments throughout adding some nice touches and there are also many instrumental passages to be discovered. Alconatua is the sort of album that if I had a brief listen to I probably wouldn't buy it, as you really need multiple listens before deciding, but overall there were some moments I enjoyed. The Italian vocals & lyrics though probably won't make this a keeper unfortunately at the Jessup household, but if you enjoy Italian progressive music then look into Prophexy, just maybe Alconauta might be your sort of CD.
