Miseration is one of the new bands of former Scar Symmetry vocalist Christian Alvestam, Your Demons Their Angels being the debut release, out now on Lifeforce Records. The first thing you notice here is that Miseration is a hell of a lot heavier than Scar Symmetry, as these guys go for the juggular with a more brutal death metal assault than the more melodic, progressive sounds of Alvestam's former band. Sort of like a mix of old school Swedish death metal and the brutal US scene, Miseration offer up nine tracks of bludgeoning riggage here and Christian's tortured death growls. Occasionally he throws in some of his excellent clean melodic vocals, but for the most part his pulverizing growls and screams take over the mix, taking tracks like "Seven Are the Sins" and "Thrones" to new heights of extremity. Though they do dip into more melancholy and progressive waters on "World Lethality", the norm is crushing death metal all the way, as on the brutal "Chain-Work Soul", "Noctivagant", and "Foul Ivective", featuring no shortage of massive riffage, jackhammer drum work, and terrifying vocals.
Throw in a quality production job by the band, and you have a red-hot package of death metal delights here from Miseration. Alvestam is also working on another project titled Solution .45, who are going to aim to take the Scar Symmetry sound to the next level. Having seen Scar Symmetry live a few times, that band is going to have a hard time replacing this dynamic vocalist, who is not resting one bit since leaving them and is busy showing the world what a true talent he really is.
