Karmakanic is a band started by Jonas Reingold from the legendary group The Flower Kings. This is their third CD of symphonic progressive rock music. The other members of the band are; Goran Edman (vocals), Lalle Larsson (piano, keyboards), Krister Jonsson (guitar) and Zoltan Csorsz (drums). Who's The Boss In The Factory is just under an hour long and contains six tracks ranging in time from about five to twenty minutes long.
The CD starts off with one of the best songs I have heard this year. "Send A Message from the Heart" is twenty minutes of pure musical joy. Jonas's bass playing is up front and in center of the mix and sounds great. Lalle uses many different keyboard sounds and plays a lot of piano. The piano really helps with the emotive feeling of the song. The song has some beautiful long instrumental parts that Krister solos over in a David Gilmore style. He also rips it up in places. As for Zoltan this is some of the best drumming I have heard from him. The last quarter of the song especially has some really nice drum rolls that fit the song perfectly. Goran's vocals are mid-range and clean, he sings with a lot feeling and from the heart. Overall the song has an upbeat feel with some very good positive lyrics. The next song "Let in Hollywood" is a funny commentary on the pop music industry. This is the shortest track on the CD and what I would consider a prog rock single, but not in Hollywood because it's in7/8 time. The third song is the title track and the second longest song at just over thirteen minutes long. The song starts out softly with just piano and bass and slowly builds to one of the heavier parts on the CD. There is some double bass drumming and distorted guitar for a short while. The song also has a very nice classical sounding piano part. The next tune "Two Blocks from the Edge" is a mid-tempo song with a lot of musical changes in it. Theo Travis adds some excellent saxophone playing to song. Krister's guitar solo is powerful and soaring and takes the song to another level, just great. The last song "Eternally" is a song Jonas wrote and devoted to his parents who died in a tragic car accident. This is a slower passionate song with a lot of feeling. The first part is a solo piano piece. The second part has some strings added and Lelo Nika plays accordion along with Goran singing makes this an intensely powerful dedication.
A superb CD with a very positive vibe to it that is enjoyable start to finish. Excellent musicianship and song writing- what else could you ask for.
