Sara Lee: Damnation To Salvation

I grew up hearing the saying "Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee". Of course that is in reference to the dessert cake company here in the states. The same may be said in Finland but it would be in reference to a very cool band that adds a bit of metal to the sweets that they deliver!

With a brand of melodic metal that is highlighted by charismatic lead singer Joonas' unique blend of terrific clean vocals mixed with some terrifying death metal growl now and then as in the magnificent song "Forsaken".

This band can bring it to you hard or they may give you a glorious piece of orchestrated rock like with the tasty tidbit "Rescue Me". It's refreshing to hear a group where every song doesn't sound like the one before it. Sara Lee paints a broad spectrum with this album and each morsel they toss you is a delectable treat in itself. Whether they are taking the heavy metal approach or giving you a reflective moment as with the tender and very powerful "Last Day Alive", Sara Lee never loses touch with their melodic side.

Here's a band that doesn't have to thrash you into submission to be heavy. They do it more with the density of the music rather than the volume. Rich, full bodied with lots of flavor! Sounds like my favorite coffee!

One of the highlights on this disc is the opening song "Scars". With a flourish and majesty, Sara Lee lets you know from the beginning that this is a band to take notice of. A terrific bit of music that gives you a taste of their melodic metal but is also not afraid to end with a beautiful little piano section. You have to hand it to a band that has this kind of songwriting and musical ability. Finland has given the world a great addition to the genre of melodic metal with the group Sara Lee and on this, their second offering; they take a giant leap toward rock and roll stardom.
