I guess you could call this an Elder statement. These stoners from the East coast are out to make their mark in the world of stoner/doom metal with the release of their self titled debut.
In a market that is saturated with average acts, Elder is breathing a bit of life back into this genre. The sludge factor is very high and the Sabbath fans will be going wild, yet there is something about this band that has just a little bit more than the average doom act. Maybe it is the taste of keyboards or the acoustic guitar, it might even be the dynamite lead work of Nick Disalvo. No matter what is the cause, the band is doing something that makes you want to keep listening.
They are as heavy as any band in their chosen field. The fuzzy detuned guitar of Disalvo crunches you with relentless sludge filled riffs straight out of hell! I can't say that they really break into much new territory over the 40 plus minutes of the album but there is moments that will make you take notice. The opening song "White Walls" with its flash of keyboards is a prime example.
Doom might not be on deaths door no more. These three guys from Massachusetts seem to be as good of a hope for the genre as any in recent memory. They are definitely worth a listen.
