In my native tongue, yak is a word we use to describe tasting bad or someone ugly. Here though, Yak refers to a horned & wild animal. Aural Music is a label dealing with innovative artists, and Yak is surely not a mainstream act, thus quite fitting their roster.
This quintet was formed in 1997. You can See the Sun was their 2004 debut. 2008 sees their sophomore effort, Iron Flavored Candies. I'm not sure exactly as to how to call their special brand of metal. The label says it's experimental Post-Metal, which does makes sense. While listening their music, one can perceive two major factors: varied influences and talent. Those musicians know their art, no doubt about it. They can play with their instruments and time signatures, as well as manipulate / modulate sounds like pros! That's what makes this album interesting. It could be pretty weird or funny at times, crushing or spacey in other circumstances. The vocals are as varied as possible. I'm not too found of the screaming / core ones, or when they take a shitty hip hop or (c)rap tone though.
All and all, a nice album. Some songs are pretty good such as: "Insects Eat Your Car", "Snuff in Copacabana" and the last tree numbers: "Jack is Back", "Squalo" and "Perfect Society".
