Right away, with such a sinister picture of Miss Suicide, you know that Thou won't make your day/life a happier or easier one. If you happen to be somewhat depressed, maybe you should wait before listening to Peasant .
Thou appear to be obsessed by morbid fantasies or ideas. The booklet is filled with skeletons and macabre pictures, all done in a very somber, hard to read and see artistic style. Granted, it does fit the ambience of their music. At least, the lyrics are written in white, so we can more easily the words and titles of the compositions. No, Peasant is not a Funeral Doom Metal release, although doom it damned is! Down-tuned / distorted guitar work and bass duo are waiting to completely grind you out of existence. I have always said that when Doom and Black Metal are combined, the result can only be devastatingly good. Discrete and ghostly rasps are used to narrate the suffocating lyrics of this album. The harmonies are being carried out by arpeggios, mostly distorted, but clean too in a few spots. Amongst the six tracks could only be found good darkness like the opener, "The Work Ethic Myth"; the long lasting piece of misery, "An Age Imprisoned", and "They Stretch Out Their Hands", where the suffocation is at its paroxysm.
Peasant might not be for everyone, still can be considered as a good acquisition if you are a Black Metal fan with a taste for doomish moods.
