Liz Childs's Oh, You Crazy Moon is as straight an album of pure jazz as you're likely to hear. Very much in the mould of Stacey Kent (although Liz's delivery is not quite as classy), Liz sings her way through thirteen covers in a soft, silky voice. She is backed by a fine band (guitar, harmonica, bass, drums) with a strong sense of rhythm and contributes some good piano herself to six of the songs.
It's smooth, it's easy listening, it's a good, enjoyable album of late-night jazz with a soft swing but it just fails to light up the blue torch-paper.
