This vocal/guitar jazz duo have put together a "Great American Songbook" for their devoted audience. Revered in the jazz and studio musician circles, this husband and wife team have been together for nearly three decades and it shows in their seamless interaction of voice and guitar. Their kinetic formula is quoted by guitarist Tuck Andress as working well due to "Patti writes and arranges; I am just the orchestra."
Simple, crisp and unadulterated the CD begins with "I Remember You." Andress's guitar is adeptly fingerpicked with love and care with and duality of progression and melody. Patti Cathcart's vocals are smokey and soulful without leaning on the cliché or over-effect of style. A stellar track is their rendition of "When I Fall in Love" with sultry, ebb and flow guitarwork supporting Cathcart's lilting vocals. Other standouts include "Old Devil Moon" and "Embraceable You."
Certainly a perennial Valentine staple to melt your honey into submission, Tuck and Patti has finally replaced a very worn out Linda Ronstadt's What's New in my collection of romantic fare.
