The first-ever EP by shock rocker Wednesday 13 while only six tunes manages to give the fans a little bit of everything by offering up not only unreleased songs, but also a cover, a re-recording and alternate versions of existing material. The album begins with the two unreleased tracks of "B-Movie Babylon" and "Return of the Living Dead" and the first one has this really sleazy groove to it along with an interesting sound effect going on in the background that made it instantly appealing to me. Lyrically it's as morbid as we love Mr. 13 to be and it delivers us right into the path of the "Return of the Living Dead". That other new track is a driving one that comes off as a very live track and one that would be fun during a show. I had to admit that I was not really crazy about the cover of the Tom Petty tune "Runnin' Down A Dream" for while Wednesday and company do a good job of it, it's hardly a song that I think translates well to anyone other than Petty himself. Granted he makes it super heavy and a tad creepier than I think Petty envisioned it ever being, but there are other covers which I think would be more fun under Wednesday's morbid microscope. This one amounts purely to personal opinion. The EP closes out with two real treats and gives us an example of what a Wednesday 13 "Unplugged" episode might be like should such a thing ever come to pass as it delivers both "My Demise" and "Skeletons" in acoustic fashion. These are two killer tracks in the first place and come from the recently released Skeletons CD so it was really interesting to hear just how good they translate into the minimal sense. "My Demise" is one of my favorite tracks from Skeletons and its powerful lyrical message is all the more so when done in this subtle fashion.
He also includes a re-recording of "I Love To Say Fuck" and research found me learning that the musician felt that this song was not too easy to find by his following who enjoyed it. It's safe to say that the existing W13 fans will enjoy this little bit of something extra from the musician and it works very well with the stuff on the new album he put out as well. The curious might find this interesting as well, but I would direct them to something like Skeletons or Fang Bang before this one.
